Mediating Effect of Emotion Expression on the Relationship between Adult Attachment and School Adaptation in High School Students

|
This study aims to verify the mediating effect of emotion expression in the relationship between adult attachment (attachment-related avoidance and anxiety) and school adaptation. The Experiences In Close Relationships-Revised survey, and the Emotional Expressiveness and School Adjustment Questionnaires were administered to 421 high school students. Results revealed the following significant links: First, attachment-related avoidance and anxiety had a negative correlation with school adjustment, and emotion expression had a positive correlation with school adjustment. A negative correlation was revealed in the relationship between attachment-related avoidance and emotion expression, and a positive correlation on the relationship between attachment-related anxiety and emotion expression. Second, emotion expression had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between attachment-related avoidance and school adaptation, and a suppressing effect in the relationship between attachment-related anxiety and school adaptation. Emotion expression is significant factor to the understanding of relationship between adult attachment and school adaptation.
